KMC Snap-On Link Sucks
I recently swapped the chain on my single speed to a new one, KMC S1. And the quick-link system on that chain sucks for one reason: it is not meant to be reusable. Here it is:
I did not know that when I was buying that chain. I supposed it would have a multi-lock link like the rest of KMC chains I have had before. Why would anyone imagine having such one-time connection mechanism is sane, when there are already more reliable methods, like this one:
Not having that third locking spring on the link makes it more prone to spontaneous disasembly, I suppose. Let’s see how this chain will hold up. And I’ll have to get a separate quick-link for it, I suppose. Sigh.
